Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué and Colombian pop star Shakira have announced that they are going their separate ways. The couple's relationship, which was built for more than a decade, could not be maintained.
"We regret to confirm that we are separated. For the welfare of our children, which is our highest priority, we ask for respect for (our) privacy. Thank you for your understanding," the couple said in a joint statement Saturday (4.6).

The 45-year-old "Hips Don't Lie" hitmaker and 35-year-old FC Barcelona defender have two sons together, Milan, born in 2013, and Sasha, born in 2015. They have been living together in Spain.
The announcement comes amid Spanish media reports that Gerard Piqué has been unfaithful to his girlfriend who is 10 years his senior. In fact, the former Manchester United defender has moved out of the family home.
The pair started dating in 2010, having met in Madrid shortly before Gerard Piqué helped Spain to the 2010 World Cup title in South Africa. The two met 12 years ago when Gerard Piqué was featured in the music video for Shakira's song "Waka Waka," the official 2010 World Cup anthem.
During a podcast appearance in February, Shakira said that she and her "poor husband, boyfriend and son's father" sometimes disagreed about punctuality because of their different backgrounds. "Because Colombian time is not the same as Catalonia time, Spanish time," he said during an interview on "Planet Weirdo with Holly H." (wk/goddess)
