When The Entire Royal Family Including Queen Elizabeth II Coordinated In Shades Of Blue, Kate Middleton Opted For A White Version Of Her Favorite Alexander McQueen Overcoat Dress.
The royal family paraded through the streets of London on Thursday (2/6) to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's official birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour. The entire royal family coordinates in shades of blue, which is considered the queen's favorite color.
Elizabeth II, whose actual birthday is on April 21, looked dazzling in a white beaded blue coat and matching hat as she waved to the crowd to kick off her Platinum Jubilee weekend. However, there is one person who actually chose another color.
When the entire royal family including the Queen, Kate and Camilla's three children, the Duchess of Cornwall - all coordinated in shades of blue, Kate Middleton opted for a white version of her favorite Alexander McQueen mantle dress, paired with a navy Philip Treacy hat.
The Duchess of Cambridge also wore sapphire and diamond earrings, a matching necklace and engagement ring, all of which belonged to Princess Diana. Middleton seems intent on paying homage to her late mother-in-law, at Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.
Diana wore the same earrings for the 1996 Met Gala with a layered pearl necklace featuring a sapphire center and a navy blue slip gown honoring the Christian Dior theme. It appears to be one of Diana's favorite trinkets, as she has worn it on many occasions, including trips to the White House and opera performances at the Munich Opera House.
Not only accessories, Middleton's white dress and contrasting hat can also be a fashion reference that Diana wore in 1991 to watch the parade of military personnel who had served in the Gulf War. The white dress featured button closures and elbow-length sleeves, paired with a wide-brimmed black-and-white hat.
Middleton also dressed her youngest son, 4-year-old Prince Louis, in the same nautical sailor suit Prince William wore for Trooping the Color when he was just 2 years old. While Prince George and Princess Charlotte each with a theme in blue suits and periwinkle dresses. (wk/zodi)
